    Although I also live in Portland, I happen to like Starbucks. If, however, I were in Berlin, or — more likely — in Munich, I don’t think I would spend my precious euros ,,beim Sternbock” either. I seem to recognize, with the people you talked with, the same ambiguity Eastern Europeans used to have towards McDonald’s, when it was still a novelty. I myself went there for two reasons only: clean bathrooms ans,. yes, FREE tpoilet paper!
