Pauline’s New Soccer Club

August 13, 2011 § Leave a comment

Well we finally made it out to Hertha 03 Zehlendorf on Friday (yesterday) for the first training. It was not an easy trip. Lot’s of crying from both kids about not wanting to go, but especially from Pauline. She’s still tired from the trip and not totally used to German time.

But once she got on the field, things started to change.

The tall guy on the left is the head coach. His name is Hans. The assistant coach is a short, fat guy named Roland. They both speak some English. I was told that some girls on the team speak English but Pauline hasn’t found that to be the case yet.

First game is tomorrow at 9am against Marzahn. Hertha 03 needs a goalie and Pauline has volunteered. It will be interesting to see what happens in an actual game. Both Hans and Roland were impressed with Pauline. Hans said he’d take Pauline (jede Zeit — anytime) and Roland commented that she can use both feet on the ball. Next weekend the team is traveling to Luebeck in northern Germany for a competition and Pauline is willing to go. Prices here are super reasonable compared to Portland. It will cost 30 euros or about $ 50 for two overnights, transportation, food and coaches. That’s a relief. I’ll write about how the game went and will hopefully have more (and better) pictures. I’ll do my best, but am not a great photographer.
